Schedule of Zen Practice

  • (Upcoming: starting May 4, 2025)

    SUNDAY ZEN PRACTICE AT ROCKVILLE UNITED CHURCH (355 Linthicum Street, Rockville, MD)

    7:00 - 8:30 PM

    Zazen (3 periods of 25-minutes meditation)—includes Walking Meditation, Teacher Talk/Instruction. Opening and closing with traditional verses or chants.

    Sit in a chair or on a cushion. Come at 6:45 pm to find your seat or if you want information. First bell at 7:00 pm. If you are late, wait until 7:30 pm to enter the Zendo.

    Tea and text study the fourth Sunday. Opportunity to speak with a teacher about your practice on second Sundays.

    Meditation Instruction offered in the first meditation period. Contact us if you have questions.

    A Day of Zen or Zazenkai is offered alternate months from 2-8:30 pm with dinner break. See Retreats Schedule

  • MONDAY CONTEMPLATIVE MEDITATION PRACTICE FOR ALL PEOPLE AT ROCKVILLE UNITED CHURCH (355 Linthicum Street, Rockville, MD)

    4:30 -5:30 PM

    Suitable for beginners or those who want a simple silent meditation practice period after work. We sit in chairs. After first bell, 10 minutes of silent sitting in chairs, followed by a Zen reading or teaching, walking meditation, and ending with 20 minutes of zazen, tea and conversation.

  • TUESDAY ZEN PRACTICE AT ASPEN HILL ZENDO

    4:45-6 PM

    Zazen 25-minutes period, followed by walking meditation, another 25-minutes Zazen, walking meditation, and a 15- minute chant/instruction.

    Remove shoes before entering the zendo. Street parking, sign on the door. Come early at 4:30 if you would like informal conversation and tea.

  • TUESDAY EVENING ZOOM ZEN PRACTICE and COMMUNITY SHARING

    7-8 PM

    Our Joyful Mind Zoom Zendo is a warm community of sharing. Please join us.

    After opening bell and chants. we sit together for a silent 25-minute practice of Zazen, followed by a dharma talk from one of our teachers, or a student talk, or a presentation from a guest teacher. The presentation is followed by community reflection/sharing.
